Overview

About this journey

Few places on Earth put you inside the mountains like the Annapurna Sanctuary. The trail climbs through Gurung villages and dripping rhododendron forest, squeezes past Machhapuchhre. The sacred Fishtail, and opens suddenly into a glacial bowl ringed by giants.

Sleeping at Base Camp itself is the magic of this trek: sunset and sunrise burn across Annapurna I's huge south face just above the lodge. Add the hot springs at Jhinu Danda on the way down and you have the most complete short-ish trek in Nepal.

Trek highlights

  • Sunrise inside the Annapurna Sanctuary at 4,130 m
  • Face to face with Annapurna I (8,091 m) and Machhapuchhre
  • Warm Gurung hospitality in Ghandruk and Chhomrong
  • Natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda to soothe trek legs
  • Achievable for fit first-timers with our pacing
Day by day

Your itinerary

This is our tried-and-tested general plan. After our first chat we fine-tune every day around your dates, group, pace and fitness, and send you a dedicated, real-time itinerary that matches your trip exactly.

Fly (25 min) or drive (6–7 h) to the lakeside city with the Annapurnas on the skyline. Evening briefing by Phewa Lake.
A jeep ride into the hills, then an easy first afternoon into one of Nepal's most beautiful Gurung villages.
Classic middle-hills walking: stone steps, terraced fields and the first big view of Machhapuchhre.
Down the famous Chhomrong staircase, then up the Modi Khola gorge through bamboo and rhododendron.
The valley narrows, waterfalls everywhere, and the Fishtail towers overhead as you reach MBC.
A short dawn climb into the Sanctuary for sunrise among the giants, then a long happy descent.
Back over the Chhomrong steps to an afternoon soaking in riverside hot pools. Bliss.
A short walk to the road, jeep back to Pokhara, celebration dinner by the lake.
Paraglide, boat, café-hop, or travel back to Kathmandu. Your call, we arrange it.
Airport transfers and onward plans handled. Many guests add Chitwan or a Kathmandu heritage day here.
