About this journey

No trek in Nepal changes as much, day by day, as the Annapurna Circuit. You start among rice terraces and waterfalls on the Marsyangdi, climb through pine forest into the Tibetan-Buddhist world of Pisang and Manang, and finish by crossing the 5,416 m Thorong La into the wind-carved desert of Mustang.

This is our home trail. The one in most of our photos, and we walk it the connoisseur's way: the high route through Upper Pisang and Ngawal, a full acclimatisation day in Manang, and a dawn crossing of the pass to reach the sacred temple of Muktinath by lunchtime.

Trek highlights

  • Cross the mighty Thorong La, 5,416 m, at sunrise
  • The high route via Upper Pisang and Ngawal, best views on the circuit
  • Acclimatisation day in Manang: Ice Lake or Gangapurna viewpoint
  • The sacred flames and 108 waterspouts of Muktinath
  • Landscapes from banana trees to high desert in one week
  • Optional side trip to Tilicho Lake (4,919 m). Ask us
Day by day

Your itinerary

This is our tried-and-tested general plan. After our first chat we fine-tune every day around your dates, group, pace and fitness, and send you a dedicated, real-time itinerary that matches your trip exactly.

Airport pickup, trek briefing, permits sorted while you drink tea.
A long, spectacular jeep day via Besisahar up the Marsyangdi gorge, waterfalls all the way.
Pine forest, apple orchards and the first big walls of Annapurna II above the trail.
The valley opens and the architecture turns Tibetan. We sleep in the old stone village high above the river. The view from the gompa is unforgettable.
The circuit's finest day: a balcony trail under Annapurna II, III and IV, ancient villages, and lunch with a 7,000-metre backdrop.
Climb toward Ice Lake or the Gangapurna glacier viewpoint, then rest. Bakeries, movies at 3,500 m, and an altitude check with your guide.
A short, steady gain through yak pastures. From here we deliberately keep days small.
Up past Thorong Phedi and the steep switchbacks to High Camp. Early dinner, early sleep, big day tomorrow.
Head-torch start, steady steps, and sunrise somewhere near the top of the world. Prayer flags, photos and hot tea at 5,416 m, then a long descent to the sacred temple of Muktinath.
Down the wind-blown Kali Gandaki to medieval Kagbeni on the edge of Upper Mustang, then along the river to Jomsom.
The short scenic flight between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, or a jeep down the deepest gorge on Earth.
Lake, cafés, massage, paragliding. You have earned all of it.
Tourist bus or a 25-minute flight. Farewell dinner with your crew.
Airport transfer and, in our experience, immediate planning of the next trek.
